Dr. Tom White, Keynote Speaker, has been working with The Voice of the Martyrs, Inc.,
founded by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, for more than twenty-five years. He has met with the
persecuted church suffering under Islam in eleven nations, as well as working in one hundred
other nations, some communist. Currently serving as Executive Director of the U.S. office,
he is involved in traveling, speaking and coordinating mission projects for hostile areas
with other VOM offices around the world.
While teaching English in the Cayman Islands in the late 1970s, Tom made
repeated trips over Cuba where he dropped hundreds of thousands of gospels. This was in
response to Castro’s ordered destruction of 100,000 Bibles by grinding them in sugar mills.
In May 1979, his private plane crashed on a Cuban highway. He was sentenced to 24 years in
prison, where he experienced brutal treatment from the secret police.
During his imprisonment at Combinado del Este Prison, Tom was able to
fellowship with imprisoned leaders of the suffering church. After many prayers, letters and
appeals from U.S. Congressmen, Mother Teresa and Christians around the world, he was
released on October 27, 1980.
He has received many honors over the years for his heart and diligence in
presenting the plight of the persecuted church. In May 2001, Oklahoma Wesleyan University
awarded him an honorary doctorate of ministry, for his work on behalf of the persecuted
church worldwide. This award recognized his lifelong contribution, through books, films and
articles, to the body of knowledge about the suffering Kingdom of God and call to appropriate
Christian study and response.
Today Tom continues to visit Christians in captive nations and returns home
to tell the story of Christians under fire.
